What is Smintke

Just an idea

I created this blog a few years ago, to explore my digital reading, and to see if I could transfer some of my notes and thoughts away from my blog into reading material fit for the digital book reader.

Allas, for many reasons this project fell by the way side, in favour of my primary blog, www.konstrukshon.com

 

So why come back to it after all these years, well the more I write on konstrukshon.com, the more I realise that I have some articles being stored that might be better suited to other sites, and some times, I have stopped or abandoned an article, simply because I thought it did not fit with the main theme of the site.

So at long last, I have resurrected the site and plan to write more articles for Smintke, looking at the written electronic word. How it might be used, and were, plus some specific articles on creating interesting copy.

I shall look at books, magazines, instruction pamphlets, embedded video, and on what devise should you write all this, currently I am using an iPad with Googles blogger software, more on this later.

What is the best way to read the articles, iPad, Kindle, or smart phone, all have there uses, and to be honest, I have used them all for a number of reasons. So over the coming months I will explore my use of reading and writing for the electronic format.

Book writing for the electronic medium

Life is getting increasingly more electronic, some might just push their heads into the sand and ignore it, some like me want more and more. This blog will be about one particular
aspect of the revolution, being the use of electronic books their use and their benefits.

Kindle and iBook are probably the best known, and cheapest to purchase, both have an initial value of zilch, but require some form of outlay to buy the equipment to run on. Kindles base price of £89 is by far the best value on a straight outlay , but don't dismiss the iPAd, the Apple product, it has many other functions that spread the cost. Googles Nexus 7 is also gaining ground, and again it also has a lot of applications that help spread the cost.

Kindle has a multi platform approach to book viewing, but Apples iBook and only be read on Apple devices. Giving, in my view the Kindle the best spread for your money.

Books are not the only thing that can be use on this new medium, trade literature, technical manuals almost anything that can be read can be viewed.

How the books can be written and loaded onto Kindle will be the subject of later blogs
